The Collaborative of State of Youth Jimma, the Jimma University Students Career Development Club (JUSCDC), and the Ethiopian Medical Students Association-Jimma (EMSA-Jimma) are proud to launch the application call for the elite Jimma University-Lead, Aspire, and Publish (JU-LEAP) Initiative (Phase 1: Cervical Cancer Awareness & Research Multiplier)! This groundbreaking program is fully funded through a competitive global seed grant from the Aspire Institute, secured by Abdulaziz Esmael (Project Founder and Director).
We are recruiting an exclusive and highly competitive cohort of exactly 30 dedicated medical and health science students at Jimma University.
🌟 WHAT YOU WILL GAIN:
Clinical & Advocacy Excellence: Hands-on, case-based, and roleplay-driven training in cervical cancer pathology, visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA)/Pap smear screening protocols, and sensitive patient counseling.
Advanced Research Training: Comprehensive modules in research methodology, data analysis software (R and SPSS), and academic referencing tools (EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley).
Field Research Experience: Lead primary data collection tracking the awareness, attitudes, and acceptance of cervical cancer screening among reproductive-age women at Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC) and vulnerable refugee populations in the Jimma region.
High-Level Dissemination & Publication: Present your analyzed research datasets directly to high-level institutional officials, public health leaders, and hospital executives, with the potential for co-authorship and publication in local and international peer-reviewed medical journals.
Professional Certification: Receive a formal Certificate of Completion signed by institutional stakeholders and international mentors upon finishing all project components.
💳 LOGISTICS & FUNDING:
Cost: 100% FREE. All training materials, stationery, media, transport, and weekend catering/per diems are completely covered by the project fund.
Duration: A total of 5 weeks, starting with intensive weekend training sessions (3–4 days), followed directly by localized campaigns and data synthesis phases.
Diversity Focus: Female applicants and international students are highly encouraged to apply.
⚠️ STRICT ACCOUNTABILITY NOTE: Securing a seat in this 30-student cohort represents a major financial investment. Selected participants will sign a formal Participation Pledge. Any participant who drops out or fails to complete the 5-week program without an officially verified medical or emergency reason will face a penalty requiring them to fully reimburse their individual funding quota of 1,350.00 ETB.
